May I change the suggested destinations or accomodations in your itineraries?
Of course! The choice is yours — you create your own special itinerary based on your style, desires, taste and budget. The only safari itineraries that may not be altered are the dated, group trips.
How many people go on one safari?
We have trips with as few as two to as many as twenty travelers. Our scheduled safaris are usually 8-10 guests. Custom safaris are any number you wish. We specialize in small group safaris to insure individual attention for all our guests. The advantage of small groups is the opportunity for unique experiences that larger tour groups just can't provide, e.g. private luxury lodges, remote locations, exclusive game drives. Wouldn't you rather be treated like a guest than a tourist?
Can Wild Rainbow African Safaris help with arranging airfare?
Absolutely! Our expert flight specialist will assist you. The final cost of your safari with us does not include your airfare. Many guests prefer to apply accumulated mileage from airlines, credit card companies, and the like. This way you can potentially lower your airfare significantly. Also our flight specialist may be able to get you on a group rate offer which you otherwise might not be able to do on your own.
Do I need a passport and visa?
Yes, you will need both to most countries. Depending on the country you are visiting you can acquire your visa at the border (often the airport) but most people like to obtain their visas at the embassy prior to departure. Once you have booked your safari we will assist you in acquiring all the visas required for your particular safari.
Passport should have at least three blank pages prior to travel. The expiration date needs to be at least six months after your return home.
Should I purchase travel insurance?
We highly recommend that you obtain travel insurance. Travelex Insurance Services is our insurer of choice. Most insurance companies cover lost luggage, trip cancellations, pre-existing conditions, emergency evacuation, and other events that could cause you to otherwise loose your investment.
What kind of immunizations do I need?
You will be traveling to countries that either require immunizations or that recommend immunizations. Before you leave for your safari, consult with your physician or go directly to the experts Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We are happy to discuss your immunization options with you.
When is the best time to go?
Anytime is the best time to see Africa. With the rainy season comes lush greenery, birds, and there's nothing like an African rain shower in the late afternoon. During and just after the rains, many of the wildlife give birth to their young. During the dry season, animals concentrate at watering holes. When you go completely depends on what you want to see and what you want to do. Whenever your vacation time, just tell us what you have in mind and we will tailor a safari to meet your goals and desires.
What should I pack?
When you come with Wild Rainbow on safari, you will be given an in depth packing list and recommended reading list. A unique feature of Wild Rainbow African Safaris is the "Pre-Trip Meeting" with owner Jody Cole, (depending on geographic location of travelers). At this meeting, the guests get to meet each other, their guide and ask any questions they have about the safari, food, transportation, safety, immunizations, etc.
Will I have access to electricity to recharge my batteries?
While in cities and towns "Yes". When out in the bush, for the most part, yes. Many lodges and camps have hours that you may tap into the generator to recharge your batteries, et al. Remember to bring along an International Adaptor just for this reason. However, we always recommend bringing along extra batteries.
What will the food be like?
It is very likely you will not be losing any weight during your safari in Africa. All lodges, permanent and even mobile tented camps are staffed with internationally trained gourmet chefs who will make sure your taste buds are more than satisfied. Rest assured that should you have special dietary needs (vegetarian, vegan, food allergies), every lodge will be able to provide you with delicious meals.
What are the accommodations like?
All lodgings during your safari are designed with your comfort in mind. From luxury lodges with amazing architecture, views, decks, and expansive open lobbies, to permanent and mobile 'tented' camps with full en-suite facilities, luxurious beddings, laundry services and white-glove customer service. We know you will be pleased every evening during your trip.
How long is the typical safari?
As long as you would like it to be! Our scheduled safaris are typically 10-12 days "on the ground" (not including flights to and from the United States). Beware of safari companies who include travel time in the length of the trip creating the illusion that you will be on safari longer than you actually will be on the ground. We can plan a month long trip down to a two week trip, and we often offer extensions to neighboring locales either before or after the scheduled safari. The sky's the limit.
Prices quoted indicate double occupancy only. May I travel as a single?
Traveling on your own is a great way to travel and of course, single travelers are encouraged to join us. Be sure to check for the Single Supplement associated with each safari (this will be indicated on each itinerary) which will allow you enjoy lodging in privacy, instead of sharing with another guest.
Traveling with Children
Our policy regarding children on safari is that they are welcome. We do, however, have a guideline:
- Children under 14 years of age must travel with their family on a Private Safari
- Children over 14 years of age must travel with at least one family member and are welcome on all of our set group trips
What if I have to cancel my safari?
If you cancel your reservation or re-book to a different trip, refunds of the total package price will be subject to a cancellation charge according to the following schedule.
Cancellation Days Before Departure:
- Over 120 - $250
- 90-119 20% *

"I can’t thank you enough for all that you did to guarantee that we all had the best experience that we could have.”—C. Hodges, Sacramento, CA
“I doubt that many safari participants cry when they leave a place, but I think we all did. I’d like to live there…. Great experience, as I’ve already expressed to you – can’t stop talking about it and want to go back soon. Botswana again, please, and perhaps Tanzania and Kenya… Loved having Jody as our guide and protector – felt very secure the entire time (wasn’t especially afraid or anything, but it was just really nice having someone there who knew what she was doing). The logistics really went very well – two tiny glitches in all of that organization were totally fine. Loved the group and loved the trip. Thank you.”—Hogeland, San Francisco
