Some of the best national parks in Africa are found in Zimbabwe, including the Gonarezhou National Park, Hwange National Park, and Mana Pools National Park. Elephants, buffalos, cheetahs, and giraffes make their home here and are easily viewed within the confines of the park. Other attractions include the Zambezi River and Lake Kariba, which is a haven for a variety of birds and of course, Victoria Falls. The Great Zimbabwe ruins, the largest collection of ruins in Africa south of the Sahara, are also a favorite exploration spot. Built between the 11th and 15th century, the ruins are the largest of their kind.
